Susan B. Katz is an award-winning author, National Board Certified Teacher, educational consultant and social media advisor to authors. As a former bilingual educator for more than 20 years, Susan incorporates props, puppets and multimedia into her presentations making them interactive and engaging. She knows how to manage large groups of students and inspire them to become lifelong readers and writers.

Ms. Katz’s second book, My Mama Earth (Barefoot Books), won the Moonbeam Gold Award for Best Picture Book of 2012 and it was named “Top Green Toy” by Education.com. Her first book, ABC, Baby Me! (Random House) debuted to rave reviews. ABC School's For Me is her third book and is illustrated by Lynn Munsinger.

Susan is also the Founder and Executive Director of ConnectingAuthors, a national non-profit bringing children's book authors and illustrators into schools and libraries as role models of literacy and the arts. Ms. Katz served as the Strategic Partner Manager for Authors at Facebook. Description of the Author’s Presentation

Susan Katz is an expert educator and polished presenter for grades PreK-5. She engages the audience and involves students in bringing her books to life. As a bilingual educator and National Board Certified Teacher, Ms. Katz is available to present in either Spanish or English. Her K-2 presentations last approximately 30-40 minutes and her Grades 3-5 assemblies and workshops are 45-60 minutes. She can present any of the following:

  • ABC, School's For Me: A prop and puppet-filled interactive look at the best parts of school through the lens of the alphabet.  Ms. Katz also incorporates multi-media and song in this presentation.
  • All Year Round: This presentation focuses on shapes and months, incorporating props and art as well as song.
  • Writer's Workshops: For a more in-depth program, Susan is available to do weekly writer’s workshops in which students create their own published books.

Conference and Festival Appearances

Susan Katz is a frequent keynote and workshop presenter at conferences such as ALA, Big Sur Writer’s Conference and San Diego State Writers Conference. She travels nationally and internationally to present. Susan is available to present for an hour to a full day on the following topics:

  • From Draft to Deal: Have an idea and need help getting into book from to sell? Susan will walk you through “the hook, the book and the cook” in order to be pitch perfect.
  • How to Stand Out and Sell: With an inundation of submissions, authors need to really hone their work and make it rise to the top for editors. Ms. Katz walks you through how to stay out of the slush pile.
  • Time-Tested Topics and The Common Core: As an expert educator, Susan shares CCSS-aligned topics that are evergreen (water cycle, plants, friendship) and empowers you to write what educators and students want and need.

Virtual Visits

Susan is available to do Skype, Facetime, Google Hangout, Spreecast, or Facebook Mentions LiveStreaming virtual visits nationally and internationally. The cost of this visit is $500 for 30 minutes.

AV and Tech Needs for In-Person Visits

Susan requires the following:

  • Lapel mic
  • LCD projector and screen
  • Medium sized table for props and puppets
  • Teachers and administrators who will stay present to manage student behavior
  • She provides her own laptop and toggle, however, a sound system is lovely.

Honorarium

Local Bay Area visits: $1,025
Southern California: $1,250
Out-of-state: $1,500 plus travel (airfare, hotel, per diem, car rental if needed)
