Sandra Markle iis the author of more than 200 nonfiction books for children. Her work has won numerous awards, including New York Public Library’s Best Books for Kids: 100 Titles for Reading and Sharing list, Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Book, Orbis Pictus Recommended Book, Charlotte Zolotow Award, and many more. Markle has also developed science specials for CNN and PBS and reported to schools from Antarctica for Scholastic and the National Science Foundation. This presentation is fun, action-packed, and includes science magic, behind-the-book adventures, and time for questions. Markle supplies “Before I Visit” activities to help students know her and her books plus she sends an “After a visit” goodie pack with a poster, bookmarks, and stickers.

Conference and Festival Appearances

Hands-On/Minds-On STEM Starters

60 minutes

Teachers discover ready-to-go STEM activities with nonfiction children’s book connections. Activities focus on helping students develop key skills to use in STEM investigations: Observing, Communicating, Inferring and Predicting. Teachers each receive a workbook of original activities Markle created for K-6. Teachers  perform the activities, explore the book connections, and be ready to put them into action with their students. Permission to reproduce the workbook activities is supplied to all those attending the workshop.

Virtual Visits

AV and Tech Needs for In-Person Visits

Markle brings her own computer and presentation materials except for some chemicals that can be obtained at a local grocery. A clip-on microphone is required for large group/auditorium presentations.

Honorarium

$2,000 per day plus expenses (no charge for food).

$250 per virtual visit.
