Paul Acampora Author Visit Kit

Grades

3–5, 6–8, 9–12

Paul Acampora leads writing workshops and classes for middle-school, high-school, college, and adult students. Paul’s presentations focus on the craft of fiction writing and storytelling, and typically inspire students to create and share their own work as part of the program. From Paul’s perspective, a successful author visit is one that leaves students excited about their own reading and writing lives. A former kindergarten teacher, Paul is comfortable with a wide range of groups, both large and small. Paul and his family live in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

You can find more about Paul at his website.

Description of the Author’s Presentation

Writing Workshops

Grade 3 and up (including adults)
45-90 minutes

Following a brief discussion of character, plot, setting, and other storytelling “ingredients,” Paul leads hands-on writing exercises designed to excite and inspire students whether or not they aspire to be writers themselves.

Where Do Stories Come From?

Grade 5 and up (including adults)
45-75 minutes

Through a PowerPoint presentation designed for school assemblies, conferences, and other large or medium-sized groups, Paul describes and demonstrates how truth is always stranger than fiction, but fiction is always constructed from real life.

Conference and Festival Appearances

Where Do Stories Come From?

45-75 minutes

In a very funny presentation designed for school assemblies, conferences, festivals, and other large or medium-sized groups, Paul describes and demonstrates how truth is always stranger than fiction, but fiction is always constructed from real life.

Virtual Visits

Paul Acampora is happy to drop in for a virtual visit via Skype with book groups and library groups that have read at least one of his books. Paul does not charge a fee for short Q&A visits.

AV and Tech Needs for In-Person Visits

For Paul’s Writing Workshops, students should bring paper and something to write with. Otherwise, no tech is required.

For large-group visits, which include PowerPoint presentations, Paul can bring a thumb drive and/or a laptop (Windows). A projector, screen, and (depending on the size of the room) microphone must be provided.

Honorarium

Paul Acampora’s author visit fees are generally $1,000 per day, plus travel expenses. He will be happy to work with organizers to plan a custom program that works best for specific groups and budgets.
