Kody Keplinger is a USA Today and The New York Times bestselling author. She wrote her debut novel, The DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend), at the age of seventeen. The DUFF was chosen as a YALSA Top Ten Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers and a Romantic Times Top Pick, and was adapted into a major motion picture. Kody has since written several other books for kids and teens, including The Swift Boys & Me, Lying Out Loud, and Run. She lives in New York City and teaches at Gotham Writers.

Description of the Author’s Presentation

Kody discusses writing and publishing at a young age with an emphasis on encouragement and the importance of chasing dreams and setting goals. The presentation is followed by a detailed Q&A with students.

Conference and Festival Appearances

From Reluctant Reader to Teen Writer
15–20 minute presentation, plus a 15–30 minute Q&A

Kody discusses how she went from a reluctant reader — even failing her reading classes — to selling a novel by the time she graduated high school. This presentation is great for students, teachers, and librarians alike.

Virtual Visits

Kody is happy to video chat via Skype, Google Hangout, FaceTime, or other formats. She can speak for 30–60 minutes with classrooms, book clubs, or library groups to discuss her writing career and writing tips. She will also answer students’ questions.
