Alex Gino Author Visit Kit

Grades

3–5, 6–8

Alex Gino is an engaging educator, speaker, and storyteller who brings the magic of literature to the classroom (or auditorium, lunch room, janitor’s closet—Alex is flexible.) Alex's presentations are interactive and tailored to your audience, but are always based in the belief that children deserve space to develop and express who they are. Laughter is expected!

Alex is based in Oakland, California, but loves a good excuse to travel. Alex has a B.A. in Elementary Education from the University of Pennsylvania, and has taught students from first graders through adults. Alex's debut novel, George, has received significant media praise including four starred reviews, mentions in People and Entertainment Weekly magazines, and will be translated into ten other languages. You can read more about Alex and George at alexgino.com.

Description of the Author’s Presentation

Alex’s standard presentation includes an introduction, an author reading, and a Q&A session. Alex is happy to work with you to create a presentation that will best meet your needs.

Schools and other groups with children: Alex will meet with up to three groups in a day for up to 60 minutes each with at least a 15-minute private break between sessions. Alex prefers to work with groups who have already read George. Alex loves meeting children of all ages, but finds that this presentation works best for grades 3-7.

Adult and mixed-age groups: Alex will gladly come for a reading and Q&A session about Georgeand the writing process. Alex does not waive honoraria for adult groups and does not answer “Trans 101” type informational questions for adult audiences.

Conference and Festival Appearances

Alex is open to readings, panels, talks, and Q&A sessions at conferences and festivals.

Virtual Visits

Alex is happy to meet with book groups and classrooms that have read George for a 20-30 minute reading and/or Q&A session (questions prepared by participants in advance recommended). Alex prefers to meet via skype or gchat.

AV and Tech Needs for In-Person Visits

Alex prefers a stool or chair to a podium, and has a pretty loud voice, but a microphone is useful if speaking to a group larger than about 50. No projector/computer needs.
