Lana Wood Johnson Author Visit Kit

6–8, 9–12

Lana Wood Johnson is the author of Technically, You Started It, a YA contemporary romcom written entirely as a text transcript between two nerdy teenagers.

Lana has spent the last 17 years helping companies of all sizes incorporate wireless technology into their workflow despite her degree in History. Lana currently resides in Minneapolis, MN where she now works at a local youth shelter. There she’s responsible for technology initiatives including real-time shelter bed availability and an ever expanding homeless and at-risk youth resource environment.

Lana quite often sits at the intersection of liberal arts and technology which is a common theme for the conversations she leads and books she writes. More information can be found at

Description of the Author’s Presentation

Schools and other groups with children:

Lana will meet with up to three groups in a day for up to 60 minutes each with at least a 15-minute private break between sessions. Lana’s standard presentation includes an introduction, an author reading, and a Q&A session. But she is also excited to work with you to create a presentation that will best meet your needs.

She can also do large group presentations on the following:

Technology and The Two Englishes

Grades 6-12

60 or 90 minutes

Cellphones and the internet have brought the Written and Spoken English languages together in a way never before seen—and that’s not a bad thing. In addition to discussing past technology’s influence on English, Lana explains how each of us adapts the rules of Written English to imbue the tone and personality of Spoken English through the magical communication devices we carry with us everywhere.

Adult and mixed-age groups:

Lana will gladly come for a reading and a short presentation on her book, pursuing publication, and/or the writing process followed by a Q&A session. She is also happy to have a discussion on the intersection of technology and youth outreach for groups of educators and librarians.

Conference and Festival Appearances

Lana would love to attend your conference or festival. She is comfortable with both youth and adult focused panels and ready to discuss writing, technology, ace/ /aspec representation, and many other topics either in a presentation or on a panel. Lana is also an experienced panel moderator.

Virtual Visits

Lana loves using technology to reach readers and fellow writers. She’s available for 30-minute Q&As with book, library, and writing groups using Skype, FaceTime, Hangouts, Zoom, or most any videoconferencing app, just ask!
