On Being You: An Exploration of Your Personal Suitcase

Grades 9-12
50-60 minutes

In this high-energy assemly or library program, Amy asks students to consider their past experiences and how they can learn from mistakes rather than be defined by them. This is the popular “Who packs your suitcase?” presentation that has helped thousands of students take control of who they allow in their decision-making space. Q&A time included.

Conference and Festival Appearances

Amy is an engaging speaker who has keynoted many conferences and festivals. Because most conferences have a theme, Amy works hard to write a presentation tailor-made for your audience. In the past, she has spoken about literacy, the writer’s life, empowerment in the 21st century, writing for empowerment, the importance of school libraries, feminist young adult literature, and many other topics.

Life of an Author: Exciting Students & Writers Through Career Conversation

A one-hour long discussion and Q&A about the life of a published author and publishing business. For writer's groups and conferences, consider 'Finding Your Writer's Middle Finger: An examination of persistence, voice, and breaking traditional writing rules' based on Amy's popular blog series.

Virtual Visits

Amy loves to use technology to virtually visit your classroom, library, or book club. Because students are usually full of questions, Amy prefers Skype visits to be 45-60 minutes long. The idea is: a conversation, not a presentation. She will start by talking specifically about the book/s students have read, but then open the room to questions so the conversation can begin.

AV and Tech Needs for In-Person Visits

For assembly programs, Amy requires a laptop and projector for AV, as well as a microphone for larger audiences.
