Compile a list of hiding places.

Talk about being afraid . . . of lightening, thunder, storms. Recall that the girl in the story hid under the bed when she was frightened. Think of other places children might hide. Then, name activities that could help you forget about being afraid—making thunder cake, whistling, etc. This list could be used as a springboard for creative writing.

Hiding Places:

  • under the bed
  • under the covers
  • in the closet . . .
