Use these lesson plans, crafts, and recommended books to help teach your class all about apples.
This activity for grades PreK-K focuses on sorting and sensory integration skills.
- About 12 apples
- Tennis balls
- Items similar in size and shape to an apple
- Large plastic tub
Step 1: Place a dozen carefully washed apples in a large plastic tub. Fill the rest of the tub with oranges, potatoes, tennis balls, and other items of similar size and shape to an apple.
Step 2: Invite pairs of students to visit the tub. Place the blindfold on one of the two students in each pair.
Step 3: Challenge the blindfolded student to take an item out of the tub and determine whether or not it is an apple. Encourage students to use multiple senses, including smell, touch, and, if possible, hearing.
Step 4: The student without a blindfold should make two piles: "apples" and "not apples." When he is done sorting, have him count the number of objects in each pile.
Step 5: After each pair has completed the two tasks, have the two students switch roles.
