You can help familiarize children with classroom routines with fingerplays that focus on washing up before snack and after outdoor play, on snack time, and on departure at the end of the day. Introduce the following fingerplays during these next several weeks and repeat them as important reminders throughout the year:

WASHING UP RHYME

This little hand is my right hand

(Hold up right hand)

This little hand is its brother.

(Hold up other hand)

Together, they wash and they wash and they wash.

(Pretend to wash hands)

One hand washes the other!

SNACK TIME RHYME

Bend them, stretch them,

Give a little clap.

Bend them, stretch them,

Put them in your lap.

First I sit in my chair.

Now I put my hands in the air.

I lower them slowly to my lap,

Now I'm ready to eat my snack!

DEPARTURE TIME RHYME

Now is the time to say goodbye,

To all our friends at play.

Some will walk and some will ride,

But we'll see them all (day of the week you'll see children again)!
