Kids' Environmental Report Card: Reversing Global Warming

The majority of kids said they would "recycle and change some habits, such as walking or riding my bike, switching to efficient light bulbs, and turning lights off." Fewer kids were eager to do even more. About half as many said they'd do "whatever it takes" to see big results.

Of course, doing something, regardless of one's age or level of commitment, is better than doing nothing at all.

"You don't have to wait until you are grown to do something about global warming," says the Pew Center on Global Climate Change. The Pew Center explains that the burning of fossil fuels for energy is the main cause of global warming, so everyone can help, simply by using less energy.

Energy Savings' Hidden Benefits

On its Kids Page, the Pew Center provides a list of energy-saving tips - everything from taking shorter showers to dressing warmly when it's cold, instead of turning up the heat.

There might even be hidden benefits to some of these energy-saving measures. As one commentator, "ArtGirl4444" suggested on the Save the Planet message board,

"Walking to the mall isn't so bad. You still get exercise while saving our world."
