By Elizabeth Mazzurco

Grades

PreK–K, 1–2

From Unit Plan: Interactive Geometry

These books are great for any primary class working on geometry.  The books vary from simple shape books to higher level books.  The books accompany any geometry unit and are found easily.

The following books are available in The Teacher Store:

Icky Bug Shapes by Jerry Pallotta
This is a fun and silly book to show and teach different shapes.

Classroom Tip: This book, as well as the following three books, are all great stories to read aloud about shapes in the world around us.  They are a fun introduction or review of shapes.

Round Is A Mooncake: A Book of Shapes by Roseanne Thong
In this enchanting book, a little girl explores the shapes of objects in her neighborhood.

Sir Cumference and the Sword in the Cone by Cindy Neuschwander
This is a more advanced book with silly geometric puns and riddles.

Classroom Tip: I use this book as the students begin to understand the shapes more and more.  It is more advanced and takes a higher level of thinking.

When A Line Bends... A Shape Begins by Rhonda Gowler Greene
This is a young story with colorful pictures to engage the readers while they find shapes on the pages.

The Wing on a Flea by Ed Emberley
This story is a simple picture book that guides the reader through finding plain shapes in everyday things.

This is software also found in the Teacher Store:

Treasure Math Storm by The Learning Company
This software allows students to practice many math skills, including time, money, shapes, and more.

Classroom Tip: This is great software for extra practice. It incorporates a lot of the math curriculum.
