The “Women's Suffrage” activity gives students an overview of how women won the right to vote in national elections in the U.S. and beyond. Students can learn about the suffrage movement and read Effie Hobby’s personal story about voting in 1920. Plus, students can take a quiz and explore maps to discover when suffrage was granted by different states and countries.

  • Students learn the History of Women's Suffrage in the U.S. and around the globe by reading articles and then taking an interactive quiz that tests them on content and vocabulary.
  • When Did Women Vote? gives students a printable chart to use as a guide as they explore two maps, one of the world and one of the United States. Students click on the map to learn when women in that area won the right to vote. Then they must fill out their chart and analyze global patterns of women's suffrage.
  • Students can follow Effie Hobby’s Story, offering a personal connection to the era, and learn what it was like vote in the first U.S. presidential race open to women in 1920.
