Read this classic book aloud to the class, and then use these activities for discussion. Your students will love Yoko and sympathize with her feelings when other students tease her. It’s a good opportunity to discuss differences among cultures.

Math: Addition Sentences
Help your students develop an understanding of horizontal three-step addition in number sentences as they work to reach the animals. Students should have prior knowledge of three-step addition before doing this worksheet.

Social Studies: Our Flag
Help your students memorize and understand the Pledge of Allegiance. Write it on the board and go through each word so that they know exactly what each word means. Then have them recite the Pledge and follow the directions on the worksheet.
