Big news this morning! Readers should get ready for Fall 2013 when Scholastic launches Spirit Animals — our next multi-platform fantasy adventure series! On September 10, 2013, book #1 in the new series, Wild Born by #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Mull, will be released, and fans will be able to get involved in the fantasy world of Erdas, where children who come of age go through a ritual to determine if they have a “spirit animal.” In this piece from Publishers Weekly, Mull explains, “Scholastic gave me a nugget, a starting point – not much more than a writing prompt, really. They told me there was a world where kids bond with animals, and four main characters, and then said, ‘Go!’ I was able to invent the mythology and to bring a lot of other things to the project.” Book 2 in the series will be written by #1 New York Times bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater and will hit stores in January 2014! She says, ” “I love the concept, largely because I love Celtic mythology, which animals have a big role in. I know that mythology will be a big part of my contribution to the series.” Fans cannot get enough of multiplatform series — like our groundbreaking The 39 Clues and Infinity Ring series. Spirit Animals will combine epic storytelling through seven books — and fans will be able to interact with a corresponding online game. USA Today sums it up: “In addition to the books, a role-playing online game — available through any Web browser — will allow kids to customize their own heroes, choose their spirit animals and go on quests to help save the world of Erdas.” Let the countdown to September begin!
