We love sharing exciting news happening around Scholastic Headquarters! Just this week Instructor Magazine received not one, not two, but THREE Neal Awards! Tara Welty, Editor and Chief of Instructor Magazine, who you may remember from her interview on OOM, graciously accepted the awards on behalf of Scholastic and the Magazine. The Jesse H. Neal Awards, named after the ABM’s first managing director, were established in 1955 to recognize and reward editorial excellence in business-to-business media. Instructor Magazine was one of 184 finalists selected by a distinguished board of judges for its content. The judging panel, chaired by Diana Henriques of the New York Times, selected the finalists from an original pool of 640 entries. Tara and her team have been relentless in covering issues in education, specifically the new Common Core State Standards. Their steadfast efforts resulted in some well deserved recognition consisting of the following awards: Best Single Article, Class A: Common Core: Fact vs. Fiction – Scholastic Instructor, Scholastic Best Instructional Content, Class A: Common Core Series – Scholastic Instructor, Scholastic Best Single Issue of a Magazine, Class A: Fall 2012 – Scholastic Instructor, Scholastic The judges commented on Scholastic’s dedication to covering the Common Core and also remarked on the pleasing design, awesome sidebars, and readability.
