Clifford s BIGGEST fans

Scholastic
Feb 19, 2013
Last week was the week of our BIG Red Dog – as Scholastic celebrated Clifford’s 50th anniversary! But we weren’t the only ones celebrating; fans BIG and small turned out all over the country to join in the festivities. First – the winners (chosen from thousands of entries!) of Clifford’s BIG Birthday Sweepstakes hosted some very BIG parties! Clifford went to each of the winner’s hometowns where he was joined by 50 of their guests to participate in some BIG red fun. Partygoers celebrated the BIG day with a range of activities, including photos with Clifford, having their faces painted RED just like Clifford’s or his pals T-Bone & Cleo, signing a BIG birthday card, playing “Pin the Big Red Ears” on Clifford and singing “Happy Birthday” to Clifford along with some BIG cake! Congratulations to the winners: Heather Blume, Austin, MN; Jamie Martin, Portland, OR; Lisa Wilson, Debary, FL; Brandi Mulligan, Portsmouth, RI and John McKeel, Oklahoma City, OK. There were also some BIG winners in the classroom too! Winners of Clifford’s BIG Birthday CLASSROOM Sweepstakes also received a visit from the big red dog himself. Clifford birthday parties took place in classrooms in Ithaca, NY; Princeville, IL; Denver, CO; Valley, AL; and Spring Hill, FL. And here in New York, the Scholastic Store hosted kids from PS 119 for a ‘Party for a Purpose’ event – which celebrated not only the 50th birthday but the kickoff of the 5th Annual BE BIG In Your Community Contest. The BE BIG campaign invites everyone, big and small, to raise awareness for how Clifford’s BIG Ideas (Share, Help Others, Be Kind, Be Responsible, Play Fair, Be a Good Friend, Believe in Yourself, Respect Others, Work Together and Be Truthful) can make the world a better place. At the event – the children learned that sometimes giving is better than receiving – as they participated in a service project to make ‘Adopt Me’ doggie bandanas that were donated to the local ASPCA. The event was hosted by Scholastic and it’s BE BIG partner – HandsOn Network and its youth service arm – generation On. Now that’s BIG! Check out the pictures from the all parties!
