D. James Smith lives in California's central valley where he studied with Philip Levine. A recipient of a fellowship in creative writing from the National Endowment of the Arts, his work has appeared in New Millennium Writings, The Malahat Review, The Quarterly, Stand, and many other magazines as well as in the anthologies, How Much Earth and Poetry of the American West. His previous books include a collection of poems, Prayers for the Dead Ventriloquist, and Fast Company, a novel for young adults. He holds M.A. degrees in counseling and English.
