Montmorency
by Eleanor Updale
When a petty thief falls through a glass roof trying to escape from the police, what should have been the death of him marks the beginning of a whole new life. He soon becomes the most elusive burglar in Victorian London, adopting a dual existence as both a respectable, wealthy gentleman named Montmorency, and his degenerate servant Scarper.

Excerpt:
The Pain woke him again. Not the constant throb that was so familiar he could hardly remember being without it. This was one of those sharp stabs from the wound along his thigh. Doctor Farcett had dug deep to get through to the shattered bone, and the layers of catgut stitching pulled as the torn flesh struggled to realign itself inside. After so many interventions by the keen young medic, Montomorency should have been prepared for the agony, but each time the aftereffects seemed worse, and the limited pain relief (alcohol and the occasional treat of an experimental gas) less effective.

Montmorency is a really good book it can cater to all age groups. It has a great plot and setting it is one of my favorites I can't wait for the next one!

Montmorency is a thought-provoking story of how a thief becomes sophisticated in society. It shows that by observing people's actions, others can become like them. This book kind of turns the tables on you, making the villain the hero. Montmorency shows how people can change over time, and the ending surprised me.

I thought this book was great! The chapters are short but are full of different plots, twists and cliffhangers! It's interesting to know what goes on through his mind while he is Scarper and his gentleman side Montmorency. Montmorency is one mystery book you have to read!

I loved this book - as I thought that you could really empathize with the characters. It was interesting because most books are about heroes, but this one is about a villain. It was interesting to think about what goes on in his mind! There were also a lot of facts mixed in with the fiction, so I learnt a lot while I was reading it!

I thought this was a great book. I thought it was clever the way she as aimed the book at children and used an adult as the main character.
I agree with Iwan D. it is kind of scary, you know the secret and you're not sure whether Montmerency is a nice person or a bad person. However you still can't put the book down and I can't wait to read the second one. It was a fab book.

I thought that this book was interesting and thought provoking because it made you think whether Montmorency was doing the right thing, and even though you became closer to Monmorency as the story developed, you had an underlying feeling, and were always asking yourself whether you would like him to get caught or not.
