First Person Fiction: Flight to Freedom
by Ana Veciana-Suarez
A new line of novels about today's immigrant experience. Written by authors who are immigrants themselves, these compelling stories are united by the characters' journeys to find their place as Americans.

Excerpt:
Sunday, 2nd of April

Here we are, you and I, alone together. Forever. Or until these pages are filled with my handwriting. You are my first diary. Papi gave you to me this morning, before he left for the countryside. "For my studious daughter," he said. (That's me.) He had tears in his eyes when he said this, and his square chin quivered.

I think that this was a fantastic book because it was so descriptive, and I am a very big reader. I just love this book! It was amazing to learn about such stuff.

I thought Ana Veciana-Suarez's Flight to Freedom was a great book! It was very informational. I learned a lot about the Cuban government during the 1950's -1980's. I really enjoyed it. It helped me in social studies, too. I could read it over and over again!!!
