Hi All! Thanks for all the questions that I've received. Sorry,
but I only have time to answer a few right now! I thought I'd give
an answer to those questions that EVERYONE seems to want to know.
Why do you like Simon?
–Jasmine H., Age 13, NY
This might be my favorite topic, Jasmine! Although it’s hard to answer.. There’s just something about Simon. He’s dreamy, really nice, and super creative. And then of course there’s his fabulous smile...
Have you ever gotten into a lot of trouble at school?
–Elana W., Age 12, NY
Have you been reading my journal?? Your timing is amazing. I just recently—for the first time ever—got into trouble at school. It all started with the best chocolate chip cookies in the world and a summer writing camp. You can read all about it in THAT’S THE WAY THE COOKIE CRUMBLES.
I want to be a writer. Do you have any tips on being a good writer?
–Julie S., Age 13
Hi Julie! One good idea is to write a little every day. You can write in a journal or a special diary. Another important thing is to write about the things that most interest you. It’s important to enjoy writing and to write about things that you care about. Read as much as you can. Pay attention to which authors you like and why. And if you really want to be a writer, don’t give up! Remember it takes a long time.
Is there a real difference between middle school and elementary school?
–Natalie P., Age 11
Hi, Natalie. Yes, they are different. In elementary school, you have one teacher. In middle school, you have many. In elementary school, you don’t change rooms seven times a day. In middle school, you do. In middle school, the teachers treat you like an older person. You’re not a little kid any more. You also might have more homework in middle school! In middle school there are more extra-curricular activities, like clubs, sports and theater.
Have you ever done anything embarrassing?
–Alyssa E. Age: 10, CO
Hi, Alyssa! I asked author Anne Mazer this question and here is
what she said: "In middle school, I was chosen to serve refreshments
to a special guest. I carried a tray of cookies, milk and tea over
to him... and dropped everything into his lap! Needless to say,
they never asked me to serve refreshments again."
What is your favorite part of being a middle child? –Kelsey S. Age: 13 TX
Hi, Kelsey, I like having two older sisters to tell me about things
like middle school and crushes, and a little brother who looks up
to me.
What is junior high like? What can I do to prepare myself for
it? –Sneha I. Age: 11
Hi, Sneha, Have all your supplies ready, if you can. Get an organizer
to write down your schedule and your assignments. Keep all your
important stuff in one place. Don't worry if the first few days
are confusing. No one else knows what they're doing, either. Ask
for help if you need it. Good luck!
Why do you like to write? Do you think you will become a writer
when you grow up? –Chelsie D. Age: 11 MO
Hi Chelsie, I like to write because it's fun, it makes me feel
better when I'm sad, and it's a record of happy times. I think I'd
like to be a writer when I grow up. I asked Anne Mazer for advice
and she said to write a little every day. She also said it's important
to read as much as I can.. It takes a long time to become a professional
writer. Maybe I'll try something else, too. Like sky-diving?
Who do you like better, Casey or Simon? –Amy R. Age 11
Wow, Amy, that's a hard question to answer! Casey is a great friend,
but Simon is just so dreamy...I don't know which I'd rather have:
a crush or a friend. So I asked Hannah and she said, "A FRIEND!"
Sophia thinks a crush is more important. I guess I like both Casey
and Simon a lot, in different ways.
