Tracy Mack is a children's book editor and a writer. Before she began her career in publishing nine years ago, she traveled throughout Western and Eastern Europe and taught English to college students and adults in Spain. Her first novel, Drawing Lessons, was named a Top Ten First Novel for Young Adults, a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age, a Bank Street College Best Book, and a Teen People Next Award Finalist. Her most recent novel, Birdland, has been described as, "A touching portrait of a boy healing from the loss of a family member within the context of New York City healing after the September 11th tragedy."

"Underlying everything I write," Tracy says, "is the essentiality of the creative act. For me, creative self expression is the truest form of empowerment, giving us the life-long tools to deal with whatever difficult or wondrous surprises life throws our way."

Tracy is comfortable speaking to large groups and small groups. She begins with a brief reading from her novel, Birdland, then gives a slide show presentation of downtown New York City, taking her audience on a journey to all the places that play a role in the book. Along the way, she talks about the research required to write a contemporary novel, as wlel as the adventures she had while doing the hands-on research required for this book. Questions are encouraged throughout the presentation to keep it lively and interactive.
