Sarah Mlynowski is the author of the middle-grade series Whatever After, the tween series Magic in Manhattan, the teen novels Gimme a Call, Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn’t Have) and How To Be Bad (which she co-wrote with Lauren Myracle and E. Lockhart), the writing guide See Jane Write, and five additional novels for adults.
Sarah’s books have been translated into 21 languages and optioned to Hollywood. They’ve also received starred reviews from Booklist and Publishers Weekly, and have been nominated for the Bluebonnet and Lone Star awards. Sarah was born in Montreal but now lives in New York City with her husband and two daughters.
Sarah’s energetic and interactive presentation begins with a discussion of how the books Sarah read when she was in elementary school inspired her to become a novelist. Sarah then helps the students brainstorm their own story idea while guiding them through the steps of book writing: Idea, Research, Characters, Outline, First Draft and Revising. The presentation runs about 45 minutes and includes Powerpoint, a short reading from Whatever After, and a question and answer period.
