Sandra and Myles Pinkney are the author and photo-illustrator of the bestselling  Shades of Black, as well as A Rainbow All Around Me and Read and Rise. Their presentations consist of a slide show, a reading from their books, and a discussion of what it takes to make children's books, from concept to final print. 

Myles will discuss equipment used, finding models, use of props, along with  the joy of taking photographs and the many dangers and pitfalls of the job.  Props used in the books, are brought in for the children to see and touch. 

Sandra will discuss her writing techniques, thought process, editing, and other aspects of completing a manuscript. She will demonstrate, through writing exercises, how a poem is created.   The complexity of the workshops will vary depending on the age group of the children. 

When talking with children, Myles and Sandra help the children look at each other in a different, more positive way.  It is our goal for the participants to learn, while enjoying themselves at the same time.
