  • How to plan an author visit

Bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater's humorous presentations focus on goals, how she uses them in her writing, and how teens can apply them to their lives. Peppered with anecdotes about her writing life and travels, Maggie describes how ideas come to her, life as an author, and how goals helped her to write Shiver and stay true to her dream of an unorthodox life as an author, artist and musician. Visual presentations of Maggie's animation and artwork engage artistic students. A reading and Q & A accompany each session. Larger group sessions are generally 45 minutes-1 hour long but can be tailored to fit time available. Round table sessions deal more with the nitty gritties of writing and the creative life and focus on student participation and improving individual students' creative experience; small sessions are best suited for book clubs or creative writing students.

Author's home: Virginia
Suggested audience: Grades 7-12
Maximum number of presentations per day: two large groups & one round table/ book club
Honorarum: $1500 per day plus expenses.
