Short Bio

Lisa Yee’s debut novel, Millicent Min, Girl Genius, won the Sid Fleischman Humor Award and has been recommended by NPR. Other awards/accolades include Thurber House Children’s Writer-in-Residence, Fox Sports Network “American in Focus,” and Publishers Weekly Flying Start, plus USA Today Critics’ Top Pick and ALA Notable. Lisa has over one million books in print, including Warp Speed, about a Star Trek geek who is bullied every day at school. Presentation Details

Suggested audience: Grades K – 4; Grades 5 – 8; Grades 9 – 12

3 Presentations and/or writing workshops per day, maximum

Lisa’s energetic and informative presentations cover the amazing, strange, and sometimes painful (ouch!) process of writing (and rewriting) a bestselling book. True confessions about her fears and dreams when she was in school, writing tips, and jaw-dropping photos of her dog are included.

AV Tech Needs

Have no fear...Lisa will bring her own projector so she does not accidentally destroy yours. She also travels with an iPod (which her presentation is on) and a universal remote. From you, she will need a cart or small table for the projector, a three-pronged extension cord, and a screen or wall to project on. A bottle of water is nice, too.

Conferences and Festivals

Lisa’s insightful and humorous keynotes at national, state and regional conferences have included an author’s POV on reading/writing, diversity in literature, reaching the reluctant reader, and speeches tailored events. She also teaches writing workshops, plus loves a rousing panel discussion.
