Laura Geringer, author of the Myth Men series, creates each presentation based on the experiences of the students themselves. If they have studied Greek myths, she begins there; if they have studied retellings (from folklore to intergenerational tales), she begins with those. She has taught children herself and is an editor of children's books, and feels it's essential to connect children with the things that are already familiar to them. Her main themes include the importance of telling stories and that we are all "guardians of the legend," the ones who keep stories alive and continue to share them, passing them back and forth, from one to another.
Laura uses slides to show the artwork in the books and reads the stories aloud. She makes day trips to cities and towns outside of Manhattan and gives up to 3 presentations a day. For best results, students should be familiar with Greek myths or retellings from other cultures.
Honorarium: $750.00 per day plus expenses, only does presentation within day-trip travel distances
