Presentation Description

Suggested Audience: Grades K – 6

In her presentations for the youngest writers (Grades K – 2), Kate tells how she began writing books as a child to give as gifts. She shows children how to take an idea and turn it into a book. With older students (Grades 3 – 6), Kate talks about the writing process: where she gets her ideas, how she begins a book, the art of rewriting, and the importance of sending characters on journeys.

Writing Workshops

Suggested Audience: Grades 3 – 12

Kate also offers small-group writing workshops (25 students or fewer) in which she helps aspiring authors kick off the first chapters of their books or start their college application essays.

Schedule

Kate is flexible regarding the day’s schedule. She often leads a 30-minute program for students in grades K-2, followed by a 50-minute program for grades 3-5, and one or two 50-minute writing workshops for a small group of older students; Other schools prefer three 50-minute sessions for grades 3, 4, and 5.
