Hans Wilhelm Visit Kit
With over thirty five million books in print, Hans Wilhelm is one of America's foremost author/illustrator of children's books. Many of his 200 books have been translated into more than twenty languages and have become successful animated television series that are enjoyed by children all over the world. Scholastic has sold over 25 million of his books nationwide.
Depending on the age of the students, Hans usually begins his school lectures with a demonstration of how books are created (from the first idea to the finished printed book). He emphasizes the key importance of the writing and illustrating process. This is followed by a power point show, using at least one of his most recent stories, which have not yet been published. Then he lets the students develop their own story, which he illustrates on huge sheets of paper. Students usually are so captivated by the process that they leave the assembly with a renewed enthusiasm for writing, reading, and illustrating. He wants them say to themselves, "I want to be a writer when I grow up!" The total session takes about 45 minutes - and is a lot of fun!!! NOTE: Hans's schedule is often booked at least one year in advance.
