Eric Kimmel's presentations are generally one hour in length except for young children (K-2) whose presentations are shorter. He also allows time for questions and answers. The size of the group is not as important as the grouping. Eric likes to group the younger ones together and the older ones together.
Storytelling plays an important part in Eric's writing, so he likes to start off by telling several stories and then showing how he works on a story to make it into a book. In the course of his talk he takes children through the process of how an idea becomes a finished book, illustrating his talk with actual manuscripts, galleys, and press sheets from his files, so that children can understand the complex steps of the publishing process. He also can do writers workshops as part of the three presenta-tions.
Prior to becoming a full time writer Eric taught Children’s Literature and Language Arts at Portland State University. He has been talking to school kids about his work and the writing process for at least ten years.
Please know that Eric’s calendar fills up fast and he is usually booking at least a year in advance.
