Brief Bio

Elizabeth Eulberg was born and raised in Wisconsin before heading off to college at Syracuse University and making a career in New York City as a publicist. Elizabeth worked in the publishing industry for over ten years before becoming a full-time writer. Her novels for teens include The Lonely Hearts Club, Prom & Prejudice, and Take a Bow.

During her presentation, Elizabeth talks about how she went from being a music geek in high school to a publicist and then a full-time writer. She also discusses her writing process, from the original seed that’s planted for a story and outline to finished book. She also focuses on the importance of character development. Elizabeth often brings in the notebooks and manuscripts from her published books as examples. She’s also available to lead writing workshops for smaller groups.

Program Description

From Dream to Reality (general school presentation)

30-60 min. Suggested Audience: Grades 6+

Elizabeth begins her presentation by discussing her love of books and music as a kid and her unlikely road to becoming a book publicist then a full-time writer. She goes through her process of writing her books, from how she develops her plot and characters. She also stresses the importance of never giving up on your dreams to the students as she almost gave up on being a writer three days before being offered her first book contract! She brings her notebooks and marked up manuscripts to share with the students. Elizabeth then discusses the publication process and the good and the bad about being a published writer. She likes as much participation from the students as possible and always leaves room at the end for a Q&A with the students.

Getting to Know Your Characters

45-60 min. Suggested Audience: Grades 8+

Don’t forget the characters! While plot is a driving force behind every book, it’s important to focus on your characters, even before writing a single word. Elizabeth will go through different ways to “spend time” with your characters and uncover their secrets. A writing exercise can be incorporated for smaller groups.

Conferences & Festivals:

The Publishing Process: From Idea to Publication

30-60 min. Suggested Audience: Librarians & Teachers

The publishing process can be a mystery: how do you turn an idea into a book? What happens when you get writer’s block? I finished my novel, now what? Why does it take so long for a book to come out? Elizabeth Eulberg, a publishing house veteran as well as a published author, will go through the process of how she writers her novels: from the original idea to outline and final draft. She’ll then give you an inside look at the process of getting a book published, from securing an agent to the book finally hitting the shelf.

Skype Visits
Elizabeth is happy to drop in for a pro-bono 20-minute virtual visit and Q&A with book groups and library groups that have read at least one of her books using Skype or iChat. Request a visit.
