Elisha Cooper Author Visit Kit
Elisha Cooper is the award-winning author of Train, Farm, A Good Night Walk, and 8: An Animal Alphabet. Beach won the 2006 Society of Illustrators Gold Medal. Dance! was a New York Times Best Illustrated Book of the Year. Please visit Elisha at www.elishacooper.com or like Elisha on his Facebook author page.
Suggested audience: Grades K–4
For younger students in grades K–1, Elisha’s presentation focuses on reading from his books, and sharing stories about his childhood. For older students in grades 2–4 , Elisha’s presentation focuses on engaging students about the content of the book (with Farm, for instance, discussing where food comes from), as well as exploring the making of the book itself. How books are made — the artistic process, editing, making mistakes, finding creative solutions — is often the most popular and entertaining subject for students of all ages. Elisha often finishes his presentation with an art lesson, using a large pad of white paper. And at some schools, if given permission, Elisha paints animals on the walls of the library.
AV Tech Needs
Elisha has a slideshow with art from his books, as well as images of the drawings he did as a child. He will bring a flash drive if your school has an AV system. Elisha is just as happy drawing and talking, and meeting teachers and students in whatever form they are most comfortable.
The honorarium for Elisha’s school visit is $1,000. But if that is prohibitive he usually can work something out, as Elisha is honored to visit schools where his book are read. He looks forward to visiting.
