David Massey Author Visit Kit
David Massey’s debut novel Torn by Chicken House Books won the Lancashire Book of the Year 2013 in the United Kingdom. Torn also made the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) reading list for Notable Social Studies Trade Books for Young People in 2014. In the two years since Torn first appeared in the United Kingdom, David has run many workshops and multimedia presentations for students in grades 6 to 10.
When he is not writing his next novel, he plays lead classical guitar and runs an Internet business with his wife, Debi in the United Kingdom. More information about David can be found at his website.

Target Audience: Grades 6 to 10, teachers, parents, and staff.
For Torn: In his presentation David explains the writing and editing process for a debut novelist and some of the things he has learned along the way. He explores the Afghan conflict from multiple perspectives and relates it to his own experiences.
For Taken: David talks about his African radio experience, the creative process, and how his planning changed since writing Torn. He explores some of the themes in the book, like disability, trauma, and forgiveness, while also relating them to current events in Africa.
For Torn: The presentation lasts approximately 45 minutes. It can be delivered via Skype and contains audio and video. David’s Torn presentation is appropriate for grades 6 to 10.
For Taken: The presentation lasts approximately 45 minutes and can be delivered via Skype. David's Taken presentation is suitable for grades 7 to 10.
