Short Bio

Cambria Gordon is an environmentalist and children's book author.  In addition to co-authoring The Down-to Earth Guide to Global Warming, she has written Fifty Nifty Crafts to Make with Things Around the House and an episode of Madeline, the award-winning animated series, for the Disney Channel as well as various publications including The Los Angeles Times Magazine.  Cambria sits on the Los Angeles Leadership Council of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).  She lives with her husband and three children in Pacific Palisades, California.

Program Description

Suggested Audience: Grades 2-8

Two presentations per day maximum

55 min. Cambria answers the question: What is global warming and what can we do about it? After screening a humorous 2-minute video from Blue Man Group on global warming, Cambria uses audience volunteers to demonstrate the science of global warming. Using humor and analogies, she will discuss this complicated issue in down to earth language, conveying a message of hope, and not fear. After the kids have a thorough understanding, she will speak about reducing our own "carbon footprint," taking suggestions and offering some of her own to help kids save energy at school and at home. She will also read excerpts from the book and if desired, can teach schools how to start their own green teams. Request a visit.

Conferences and Festivals

Cambria has spoken to adults at the National Teacher’s Conference in Minneapolis, the Catholic Librarians Association, The Los Angeles Times Festival of Books as well as at numerous synagogues and libraries. Request a visit.
