Aimee Friedman is the author of several books for young adults, including The New York Times bestseller and ALA Quick Pick South Beach; French Kiss, Hollywood Hills, A Novel Idea, The Year My Sister Got Lucky, which Booklist called "funny, insightful, and delightful," the graphic novel Breaking Up, one of New York Public Library's Best Books for the Teen Age, and the forthcoming Sea Change. She has also published short stories in the collections Mistletoe and 21 Proms.
Born and raised in Queens, New York, Aimee grew up in a household full of books and different languages, instilling in her a lifelong love of literature. She majored in English at Vassar College, and after graduating with honors in 2001, entered the world of children's publishing. Aimee now works as a Senior Editor at Scholastic. In her presentations to classrooms, she talks about her dual careers as editor and author, how one led to the other, and how each informs the other. With visuals, personal anecdotes, humor, energy, and encouraged participation, Aimee will discuss how she became an author, how she develops plotlines and characters, her writing process, her favorite books, and writing for the Facebook generation. A reading will follow. Aimee is happy to tailor her programs to mesh with what students are learning in class, and is also happy to facilitate a writing exercise or mini workshop.
