Fabulous Last-Minute, DIY, Teacher Appreciation Gifts

By Lindsey Petlak on May 7, 2014
  • Grades: PreK–K, 1–2, 3–5, 6–8, 9–12

If you’re like me, it’s already Teacher Appreciation Week and you realize you have nothing yet for your child’s teacher(s), nor your teaching colleagues (don’t forget about them!). Don’t worry and don’t give up. There’s plenty of time to whip up something crafty, cute, and inexpensive (or free!) for those special teachers in your life. Check out my Pinterest board, tech treats, and DIY creations below to give the golden apple of teacher gifts this year!

Scholastic Teacher Appreciation Week

Scholastic LOVES teachers. We all know that! In the month of May, they’re really shouting it from the rooftops to make all of you fabulous educators feel special. Check out the Scholastic Teacher Appreciation Week webpage for 5 FREE PRINTABLE POSTERS for your classroom, 100 FREE PRINTABLES from the Teacher Store, and an inspirational video that will most likely bring a few tears to your eyes!

Tech-Tastic Treats

Free, quick, and adorable, these tech-based teacher treats are sure to please. So simple to create and send, you could make one each day and surprise your child’s teacher(s) and your own colleagues day after day during teacher appreciation week. Check out a few of my favorites below:

Dr. Seuss Camera app makes fun cards.

Create a Puppet Pals performance.

DIY Sweet and Simple Gifts

I love receiving sweet, simple little gifts as tokens of appreciation. Most of these great ideas are free or can be made with items from around the house or dollar store, and are quite inexpensive. Take a peek at teacher appreciation gift inspiration and from one of my favorite lifestyle blogs, Eighteen25. Every single idea on their blog is phenomenal, but below are a few of my faves.

I know people have very strong and differing opinions on giving/receiving gift cards.  Personally…I love them! Put a clever twist and personalized style on your gift cards with ideas such as these.

Keep Calm and Teach On

I also recommend playing around with the free online Keep Calm Posters maker. Get clever with your wording, such as “Keep calm and teach on” or “Keep calm and pretend it’s on the lesson plan” with this poster generator. Design and print your creation, mat and frame in a dollar store frame or Modge Podge, then print onto a clipboard for a fun, witty teacher gift for only a few bucks. I love this pencil vase with “Keep calm…” saying attached from Frugal Coupon Living!

Gotta Love Freebies

You know one thing I REALLY love about teacher appreciation week/month? ....FREEBIES and DISCOUNTS!  The Frugal Coupon Living blog has a master list of such splendid goodies, so take a peek, make your wish list, and go get some bargains — you deserve it!

My Pinterest “Gifted” Board
