Enhance the United States Region Tour With Reading and a Bulletin Board

By  Beth Newingham on February 28, 2012
  • Grades: 3–5

During our United States Region Tour,  when students become familiar with the regions and begin traveling to different states and cities on the region tour, I create a "Reading Takes Us Places" bulletin board.

As students come across specific cities or states in the U.S. as they are reading books from the classroom library, they pinpoint them on the map using the colored tack that is designated for them on the map key. This is a great way to connect reading workshop to social studies!
