The United States has nine time zones. We set our clocks based on where we live. We follow the rising and setting of the sun to set the clocks. Then everyone has daylight during the same hours. If it is dinnertime in New York, it is only lunchtime in California. We call these differences the time zones.
The Halloween tradition of trick-or-treating began with the Celtic holiday of Samhain. Samhain was celebrated in ancient Ireland on October 31. Samhain means "summer's end" in the Gaelic language. The Celts believed spirits walked on Earth during Samhain. They put out food and drinks to make the spirits happy. Over hundreds of years, Samhain became the trick-or-treating holiday of Halloween.
