Basketball was invented by James Naismith. He taught physical education at the YMCA in Springfield, Massachussetts. During the cold winter of 1891, Naismith needed an exercise his students could do indoors because it was too cold to go outside. So he invented basketball!
Dr. Seuss's real name was Theodor Seuss Geisel. As a college student, Geisel wrote cartoons for his school's humor magazine. He signed his name as "Seuss." Then, as a joke, he began calling himself "Dr. Theophrastus Seuss," which turned into Dr. Seuss.
