Putting words and their definitions on the chalkboard for students to copy won’t help students learn new words. When students copy information, there’s no guarantee that they are thinking about the definitions being copied. Moreover, we don’t learn words by definition. We do learn words by being able to use them in situations that showcase understanding. This takes time and meeting the new word several times in reading and while listening. Share some vocabulary building strategies that you use. Also, go to my website, www.LRobb.com and sign up for the free newsletters.
