Is Your Mama a Llama? Extension Activities
- Grades: PreK–K, 1–2
Allow students to select a given animal and ask them to find out three facts about it — what it looks like, where it lives, and any additional fact that they find interesting. In turn, invite each to lead the class through a guessing game through the use of the facts. For example, the child could say, “My animal lives in the water and its babies hatch from eggs. What is it?”
Have students take a look through the book and note the animals that are included. As they name each, write them on cards. Next, have students group the animals with like characteristics (e.g. birds, mammals). Ask them if there are other groups that aren't included.
Using a large world map, show students where each animal lives in its natural habitat.
