Today is Monday Lesson Plan
- Grades: PreK–K, 1–2
- Today is Monday by Eric Carle
- Pictures of the following: (Instead of pictures, you can also use play food from your house-keeping area.)
- string beans
- spaghetti soup
- roast beef
- ice cream
- The days of the week listed on 8 1/2" X 11" sheets of paper (7 sheets total)
Lay out the days of the week, starting with Monday. Have the students read the days of the week. After reviewing them, students can take turns placing the food cards beneath the correct day sign. Once the foods have been matched to the appropriate days, students can help to retell the story.
Try singing the song at the end of the book. If you can't read music, or don't play an instrument, find a colleague or parent who does. My curriculum coordinator visits our classroom with her guitar. The students have a blast singing along.
Make copies of a blank calendar page for students. Have them draw the foods on the appropriate days.
