Shoes from Grandpa Lesson Plan
- Grades: PreK–K, 1–2
About this book
I use Shoes From Grandpa in our Mem Fox author study. I also use it as an example of a cumulative tale. My students like reading the cumulative text.
Students apply knowledge of language structure, language conventions (e.g., spelling and punctuation), media techniques, figurative language, and genre to create, critique, and discuss print and non-print texts.

Encourage the students to read along with the story.
Why did Jessie want someone to buy her jeans at the end of the story? The students could rewrite and illustrate the story from their own experiences with presents from family.
The students could create torn tissue paper collages.
The students could video tape themselves acting out the story. Then, using iMovie HD or Movie Maker, edit the video adding titles and special effects. Show the video to other classes or allow the students to check out the video for viewing at home.
