VOCABULARY
You may wish to introduce or review the following words with students before they read the book. Assign one or two words to each student and challenge them to be etymology sleuths. Explain that in addition to looking up the word's meaning, students should also research the word's origin. Give an example such as the following:
- Sympathy is derived from the Greek word pathein which means “to suffer” or “to feel” and from syn meaning “with.” When you feel sympathy with a person, you “suffer” with him or her.
