There is something magically wonderful about the transition from green leaves to gold and orange and red which happens during autumn. Here are some great sites for classroom use as you celebrate the season of fall.

Why Do Leaves Change Color in the Fall?
Many sites can help you, the teacher, understand why leaves change color. This one brings the information down to "kid level" while including fun fall facts and even a word-scramble puzzle. The science experiments here may be too difficult for many K–2 classes, but are worth thinking about.

Fall Foliage Maps
The Weather Channel has simple maps showing the normal peak times for fall color. Use the maps to discuss why the northern and high-elevation sites peak earlier.

What's It Like Where You Live?
This Missouri Botanical Garden site explores several biomes. A segment on the temperate biome includes great life-sized photos of leaves and also offers hints on identifying trees.

Preserve Colorful Beauty of Fall Leaves
Here, you'll find step-by-step instructions for preserving leaves.  It can be great fun for kids!
