Oliver's Vegetables Lesson Plan
- Grades: PreK–K, 1–2
- Oliver's Vegetables by Vivian French
- construction paper
- glue sticks
- Pictures of the following vegetables to use as a reference:
- 7 sheets of paper (8.5" X 11")
Set Up and Prepare
Label the papers for each day of the week. Post them in order, Sunday through Saturday, in a spot where students can reach them.
Have students use the construction paper and glue sticks to create the following vegetables: carrots, spinach, rhubarb, cabbage, beets, peas and potatoes. (You will need to decide if you want to assign them a specific vegetable, or if you want them to create each of the vegetables.)
Have students bring their paper vegetables over to the posted days of the week. As you retell the story, have them tape their vegetables to the appropriate paper.
As a sorting activity, have students sort vegetables by the parts they eat: root, stem, leaf, seed.
Have students bring in the vegetables featured in the book.
Have a taste testing or do a cooking project.
