Overview

I use Matilda to teach reference skills for an author study on Roald Dahl. This is done with both the teacher and media specialist. The students loved the website. It is filled with off-the-wall activities and information.

Objective

Students will use a variety of reference materials to gather information for research.

Materials

  • Matilda by Roald Dahl

Directions

In the media center, the students will be introduced to a variety of books written by Roald Dahl. Divide them into groups of 2-3 and have them go to the Roald Dahl official website. Once there, they can gather information about the author.

Lesson Extensions

During reading or after finishing the book Matilda, the students can use the official website to e-mail questions they might have about the story. They can make a bulletin board in the classroom of their e-mail responses.
