- Compare and contrast Hanukkah to other celebrations.
- Create a project.

- Glue
- Scissors
Set Up and Prepare

- Cut cellophane into candle-size pieces.
- Check glue bottles for condition of use
- Check Kidspiration connection to large screen monitor
Directions
Step 1: As a group, list what the children already know about Hanukkah on the chart.
Step 2: Read A Picture Book of Hanukkah by David Adler (Scholastic)
Step 3: Using Kidspiration, list what the children learned about Hanukkah.
Step 4: Compare and contrast Ramadan, Diwali, and Hanukkah.
Step 5: Create a candle window decoration. Take two pieces of black construction paper. Trace a candle shape (See Candle Stick Shape PDF) onto one of the pieces. Cut the shape out of both pieces at the same time so they line up. (An adult volunteer could help with this.) On the inside of one paper, glue colored cellophane or colored tissue paper. Then glue the other black cut out to the backside. Hang in a window to allow the light to shine through it for a festival of lights.
Step 6: As a group, create a letter to parents explaining about Hanukkah and the candles.
