Junie B. Jones Lesson Plan
- Grades: 1–2, 3–5
Books in the Junie B. Jones series are fun books to read aloud. I also have enough copies for a guided reading group. It lends itself to discussing behavior, characters and describing words. My students adore Junie B. Jones books. They enjoy laughing at the funny things Junie B. Jones says and does.
Students will practice using meaning clues (e.g. pictures, picture captions, title, cover, headings, story structure, story topic) to aid comprehension and make predictions about content (e.g. actions, events, character's behavior).

Set Up and Prepare
Looking at the cover of the book and the title, ask the students to make predictions about the content of the story.
Keep a list of Junie B. Jones behaviors. Keep a list of Junie B. Jones words and phrases.
The students will retell the story and act it out.
The students could write a comparison between their own behavior and Junie B.'s behavior.
The students could explore the Junie B. Jones website for activities.
The students could make Junie B. Jones masks to wear when they retell the story.
Video tape the students when they act out the story. Then using iMovie add titles and special effects to enhance the story. Save the movie as a Quicktime movie. Show the video to other classes or allow the students to check it out to view at home.
