Show children the cover of the Big Book. Point out that the title Jamberry is made up of two smaller words: jam and berry. Invite children to create compound words like those in the book, using made-up berry words.

  • To get children started, write a few made-up berry words from the book, such as jazzberry, shoeberry, and berryband, on chart paper.
  • Add the words children make up to the chart.
  • Invite them to create illustrations for their made-up words.
